Hotel Plaza Athenee
The iconic Plaza Athenee reopened in 2014 after a $268 million renovation, and the results of its sprucing up are, in a word, stunning. The hotel expanded into two adjacent town houses, and also subtly refreshed the interior decor in the lobby, restaurant, bar, and the rooms. We revisited the hotel in 2015 to see the renovation for ourselves, and were impressed by the tasteful and classic approach. The hotel first opened in 1913 and its look stays true to its historic roots; room decor is inspired by French Regency or Art Deco periods, and guests can expect gilded mirrors, oil paintings, haute-couture fabrics, and antiques. More rooms now offer direct Eiffel Tower views. Those heading to the City of Light soon should also keep an eye out for the reopening of the Ritz Paris, planned for this spring.
